"Confession"
by Silverking
I have lived in Ravenna for many years. Throughout those years I have
seen the glory that is the Roman Empire, but now I fear it to be in
jeopardy. The Goths are now at our gates. They are starving,
murderous, and angry. And for good reason. What have we done for them?
We've taken their food, made them to trade their children for dog
meat, and treated them as slaves. And now they have come to take their
revenge.
It is true I love the Roman Empire with all of my heart. But our time
has ended. The world is moving faster than us, and so we slowly fade
away into history. I do not pray for mercy from the Goths. I deserve
my fate. I just pray that they will rule better than we did.
Stultum est timere quod vitare non potes. -- It is foolish to fear
that which you cannot avoid.
